Karl-Anthony Towns questions ‘disgusting’ detainment of NFL star Tyreek Hill outside Hard Rock Stadium
Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves reacted to the recently released video of Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill being arrested. Hill was detained by police outside the Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium ahead of the season opener against Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
In a post on X, formerly Twiter, Towns questioned the police for their actions against Hill and called it “disgusting.” He also asked what would have happened if the NFL star was just an ordinary citizen.
“That @cheetah police video is not only disturbing, but disgusting. Like he said, what would’ve happen if he wasn’t who he is?” Towns tweeted.

Karl-Anthony Towns was one of many athletes who reacted to the video of Tyreek Hill getting arrested outside Hard Rock Stadium. Hill was reportedly detained for a “traffic violation” although the body cam footage of the incident was much more serious than initially thought, as per Yahoo! Sports.
Miami-Dade Police Department Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced shortly after the release of the video that one of the officers is under investigation and is currently on administrative duties.
Hill’s teammate Calais Campbell was also arrested after he tried to calm the situation. Both players were released before the start of the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Luckily for the Miami Dolphins, both players were able to contribute to their 20-17 victory.
The wide receiver’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, released a statement condemning how the police officers handled the situation. Rosenhaus also announced that his client’s legal team is mulling a potential legal action against the Miami-Dade police department.

Unsurprisingly, Karl-Anthony Towns reacted to Tyreek Hill’s disturbing arrest body cam footage. Towns is the latest winner of the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award for his work off the court, especially in Minnesota.
The 28-year-old Timberwolves star was recognized for helping pass Bill HF28 or the state’s ‘Restore the Vote’ bill in 2023. The bill allowed more than 55,000 people previously incarcerated or on parole to have the right to vote. It also lowered the legal voting age to 18 years old in Minnesota.
“It is a great honor to be named the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion. I am proud to have played a role in the passing of Minnesota’s Restore the Vote bill and I will always be committed to supporting social justice causes as that is part of my DNA,” Towns said after winning the award.
The NBA introduced the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award in 2021. The first three winners of the award are Carmelo Anthony, Reggie Bullock and Steph Curry.
