Mr. Trump is more popular than the current President, are Americans reconsidering?

Facing off in a hypothetical November 2024 election, Trump currently has 51% support, while President Biden has 42% — up 3 points for Trump and down 2 points for Biden compared to an ABC/Washington Post poll conducted in February of this year.

The poll also found that Biden’s approval rating had dropped 19 points since the most recent ABC News/Washington Post poll.

The current US president’s ratings on his handling of the economy and immigration also dropped from the previous survey. In the survey, 44% of Americans said their financial situation had worsened under President Biden.

On the economy, only 30% approve of Mr. Biden’s performance. On handling immigration at the US-Mexico border, approval drops to just 23%.

In the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, 37% of Americans approved of the current president’s overall job performance, while 56% disapproved.

People also questioned Mr. Biden’s age, with 74% in the survey saying he was “too old” to serve a second term as US President. Meanwhile, the view that Mr. Trump was too old also increased in this survey.

Regarding the possibility of a US government shutdown after September 30, 40% of people said that Democrats in Congress were responsible, while 33% said they blamed Republicans.

In an ABC News/Washington Post poll, Trump’s ratings improved.

At the end of Trump’s presidency in 2021, only 38% of Americans approved of his job performance, but that number has now risen to 48%. However, 49% of respondents still disapprove of his role as US President.

Additionally, of the 56% of Americans who disapprove of Biden’s performance in the White House, 75% say they would favor Trump in hindsight.

However, most Americans continue to reject Trump’s claim that Biden’s 2020 election victory was fraudulent. Sixty percent of Americans say President Biden won legitimately, and another 12 percent say they have no opinion; just 29 percent say the Democrat did not win legitimately.

Also according to the survey, 62% of Democrats and independents leaning towards the party said the party should choose someone other than Biden as its candidate in the 2024 US presidential race.

About 8% of respondents supported incumbent US Vice President Kamala Harris, 8% supported candidate Bernie Sanders and 7% expressed confidence in candidate Robert F Kennedy Junior.

In contrast, Donald Trump’s selection as the Republican candidate in the 2024 US presidential election is supported by 54% of Republicans and independents leaning toward the party.

However, candidate Ron De Santis has only 15% support, compared to 25% in May. All other names receive support in the single digits.
