Six Flags Great Adventure’s Wild Safari attraction announced that its endangered Siberian tiger, Nadya, gave birth to five cubs in May.
The litter doubled Six Flags’ Siberian tiger population and increased the global population by 1 percent, Great Adventure officials said.

Siberian tigers are listed as endangered by the World Wildlife Fund, a global conservation organization. Six Flags Wild Safari said there are less than 500 Siberian tigers left in the wild worldwide.

The species are the largest felines in the world, averaging 11 feet long, according to the safari.
The five cubs (four females and one male) will help ensure the species survives “at least two more decades,” said Six Flags veterinarian Dr. Keп Keiffer.
Most tiger litters have between two and four cubs, making Nadya’s birth of five cubs on May 2 “extremely rare,” park officials said.

Three weeks after birth, four of the puppies had grown to weigh 6 pounds but remained at a typical weight of 2.5 pounds. The Six Flags veterinary team brought the tiniest club to the clinic, where it received around-the-clock care, Keiffer said.
“If there had been human intervention, she would not have survived,” he said. The cub quickly gained weight and is doing well, park officials said.
Guests can see Nadya and the four older pups at Six Flags Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure, which is open this summer through Sept. 5.
