The cat-and-mouse game of the Cowboys owner regarding Prescott’s extension doesn’t appear to see an end any time soon. He will more than likely drag it on as far as he can while other franchise owners reward their quarterbacks with handsome paychecks.

Dak Prescott, on the other hand, has far more experience as a starting quarterback and went three consecutive seasons with 12-5 finishes. The only downside is his lack of playoff wins—only 2 in 7 games.

Even though the 30-year-old failed to take the Cowboys to a championship game, Jones confidently backed him to remain with the team beyond his contract year. In the meantime, the market reset once more, raising the numbers further.

The Green Bay Packers rewarded Jordan Love with a four-year $220 million deal ($55 million), making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. Love’s extension is bound to affect Prescott’s deal despite Jones’ constant chants of being all in.

The wait-and-watch policy from the veteran Cowboys owner is eating away precious leverage—whatever little they have. Analyst Warren Sharp pointed out that Jones continuing to delay Dak Prescott’s contract is dumb. And it seems many on the Internet are agreeing to that as well after the recent Love deal.
