A single mother has revealed how she became a mom of four at age 21 after she welcomed two ‘miracle’ sets of ᴛᴡɪɴs within two years – despite being on ʙɪʀᴛʜ ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴏʟ ᴛʜᴇ sᴇᴄᴏɴᴅ ᴛɪᴍᴇ sʜᴇ ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ. Kaitlin Brooks, now 22, from Lɪᴛᴛʟᴇ Rᴏᴄᴋ, Aʀᴋᴀɴsᴀs, was over the moon to discover she was ᴇxᴘᴇᴄᴛɪɴɢ ᴛᴡɪɴs in March 2019 and she welcomed her boys, Denver and Dayton Brooks, into the world that October at the age of 19. But the full-ᴛι̇ɱe mom couldn’t believe her luck when just after their first birthday she found out she was ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ with ᴛᴡɪɴs again – despite ʙᴇɪɴɢ ᴏɴ ʙɪʀᴛʜ ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴏʟ – and she ɢᴀᴠᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ to Pierce and Piper Brooks in August 2021.
After having four children before the age of 22, Kaitlin decided it was too ᴅɪꜰꜰɪᴄᴜʟᴛ for her to ʀɪsᴋ having another set. And although the single mom-of-four is on ʙɪʀᴛʜ ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴏʟ, she has debated having her ᴛᴜʙᴇs ᴛɪᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ᴇɴsᴜʀᴇ sʜᴇ ᴡᴏɴ’ᴛ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴀɴʏ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜɪʟᴅʀᴇɴ, since ᴛʜᴇ ᴘɪʟʟ ʜᴀs ꜰᴀɪʟᴇᴅ her in the past. She said: “Knowing that if I fall ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ again I’ll have multiples again is sᴄᴀʀʏ because I don’t see how I could do another set. I think I’m going to get my ᴛᴜʙᴇs ᴛɪᴇᴅ because I don’t want to have to worry about that happening again.”
Kaitlin found out she was ᴇxᴘᴇᴄᴛɪɴɢ for the first ᴛι̇ɱe in March 2019 and although ᴛᴡɪɴs run in her family, she was still ‘sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ’. Kaitlin said: “I found out that I was ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ at five weeks and had my first ultrasound at eight weeks and it was ᴛᴡɪɴs, I was sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ. ᴛᴡɪɴs do run in my family but it was way back in the day when my family had ᴛᴡɪɴs – my great grandmother’s sisters had ᴛᴡɪɴs and triplets.
The 22-year-old said she ɢᴀᴠᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ on October 29th 2019 when she was 38 weeks ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ. Denver arrived first weighing 6lbs 10.5oz and his little brother Dayton followed eight minutes later weighing 6lbs 7.7oz. Kaitlin had a great ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ but had to stay in the hospital for a week after ᴅᴜᴇ ᴛᴏ ʜᴀᴠɪɴɢ ᴘᴏsᴛᴘᴀʀᴛᴜᴍ ᴘʀᴇᴇᴄʟᴀᴍᴘsɪᴀ- which is a ʀᴀʀᴇ ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ that occurs when you have high ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ ᴘʀᴇssᴜʀᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ᴇxᴄᴇss ᴘʀᴏᴛᴇɪɴ ɪɴ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴜʀɪɴᴇ sᴏᴏɴ ᴀꜰᴛᴇʀ ᴄʜɪʟᴅʙɪʀᴛʜ, according to Mayo Clinic.
She found out she was ᴇxᴘᴇᴄᴛɪɴɢ again in November 2020, a month after the boys’ first birthday. Kaitlin said: “It was a surprise again and another sʜᴏᴄᴋ for me. I definitely didn’t think it was ᴛᴡɪɴs again. I found out that I was ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ a little bit earlier on when I was three weeks and found out they were ᴛᴡɪɴs at six weeks. It was so funny because my mom thought that I was lying to her about having ᴛᴡɪɴs again. I was on ʙɪʀᴛʜ ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴏʟ [ᴛʜᴇ ᴘɪʟʟ ] when I got ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ with the babies. I thought I was going to have to have a C-sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ because Piper was ʙʀᴇᴀᴄʜɪɴɢ ᴀɴᴅ ᴡɪᴛʜɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴀsᴛ ᴍɪɴᴜᴛᴇ sʜᴇ ꜰʟɪᴘᴘᴇᴅ, so I was able to ɢɪᴠᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ to them naturally too. I had ʙᴏᴛʜ ᴏꜰ ᴍʏ sᴇᴛs naturally, I did have to have an ᴇᴘɪᴅᴜʀᴀʟ ʙᴜᴛ I ᴅɪᴅɴ’ᴛ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴀ C-sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ.’
Kaitlin ɢᴀᴠᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ to her second set of ᴛᴡɪɴs after carrying them for 38 weeks and five days. She had another boy, Pierce Brooks who weighed 7lbs 5oz and a girl Piper Brooks, who was 6lbs 13oz. And luckily she had no ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs ᴀꜰᴛᴇʀ ᴛʜᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ and was able to return home after 24 hours. Kaitlin said: “People are very sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ when I tell them that I’ve got two sets of ᴛᴡɪɴs because I’m only 22. A lot of people are sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ and they’re like ”I don’t see how you do it?” and I was like ‘I don’t really have a choice you know, this is my life’. I’m not ᴘʟᴀɴɴɪɴɢ on having any more of my own children. I’m happy with my four that I have now.
