Police in charge of the Māhia area shared that the white shark over 5 meters long quickly attacked and killed the mother pygmy sperm whale, a small fish 3 meters long.
Witnesses said the shark nibbled on the pygmy sperm whale’s head, causing it to die instantly. This left a young pygmy sperm whale stranded on the beach without its mother. To prevent suffering for the young pygmy sperm whale, authorities had to inject it with euthanasia. (Photo: Hawke’s Bay Today)
Researchers have had difficulty understanding the strength of the great white shark’s bite.
It seems that humans still do not really appreciate the strength of this bite because they can bite off anything in front of them, from bone to steel.
The bite power of the largest white sharks can be up to 2 tons, three times greater than the bite force of an African lion and 20 times greater than the bite force of a human.
This represents one of the most powerful bites in the modern animal world, although killer whales and crocodiles are equally powerful.
The bite force of a great white shark, a beast nicknamed the “killing machine”, can cause large seals to split their bodies in half.
