Baby Zhyrille Cruz was diagnosed with leukemia, a benign blood cancer that was complicated by a deformed swollen tongue. Although they knew that their child could die if they did not receive surgical treatment, Zhyrille’s family was very poor so they could only wait for donations.
Her mother, 22-year-old Mary Cruz, took her daughter to the National Lottery Center many times to ask for support, but she only had enough money to install a breathing tube in Zhyzille’s neck. The girl is currently being treated with free medication at home, but the lymph tumors have not tended to shrink.
“Zhyzille is the light in our hearts. We don’t know what the future holds, but we promise to make this the best Christmas for her yet. Zhyzille is the best gift the family can have. Her laughter makes everyone smile and hopefully one day, my daughter will become a beautiful, radiant young girl,” Mary confided.
