Strange, never-before-seen sea creatures were discovered by a group of international researchers under the ice layers in Antarctica thanks to modern technology scanning the seabed.
Dr. Dave Bowden described his amazement at bizarre life forms with strange characteristics. Among these valuable discoveries are crinoid sea lilies – which are only found in fossils.
In the documentary, the scientist also explains how he discovered the sea spider with huge legs and a microscopic body.
Other strange discoveries are that sponges do not have a nervous or digestive system and get their nutrition by filtering water through pores in their bodies.
“The Antarctic continental shelf has been isolated from the rest of the planet for many, many years. This is a sea spider – one of the most interesting species in the Antarctic biota. Because they are so different from the spiders we have seen. They are extremely large but concentrated in their legs, and they basically have no body. It’s unlike anything we know,” Dr. Brown said in the film.
There are debates about whether Antarctica is the origin of larger creatures or whether this is just the evolution of creatures that live in an isolated sea and do not exist anywhere else. “, said the scientist.
Dr. Brown also affirmed that one of his most interesting discoveries during the trip on the North Ross Sea was finding crinoids – a species closely related to sea urchins.
“The main difference is that it is a living form, whereas before, we only saw them in fossils,” he said.
