Golden pheasant’s scientific name is Chrysolophus pictus.
In Vietnam, it is often called the Japanese pheasant.
However, this bird originates from Western China.
The adult male has a length of 90-105 cm, the tail accounts for 2/3 of the total length. Meanwhile, the female has a length of 60-80 cm.
For a long time, many people have chosen to raise them as pets.
The golden pheasant has a colorful body with a bright yellow patch covering from the top of the head to the base of the tail. Particularly, the neck and wings are interwoven with many characteristic compartments with black, yellow, and purple feathers. The breast and abdomen are covered with bright red feathers.
Wild food of golden pheasants includes leaves, young shoots, bamboo shoots, insects, small animals…
Normally, each brood of golden pheasants will lay 8-12 eggs.
They will incubate the eggs for about 22-23 days.
