The bird of paradise is known as the most beautiful bird in the world because of its beautiful plumage along with its wing-spreading and tail-dancing.
This bird lives in tropical forests, including rainforests, swamp forests, and moss forests. The main food of birds of paradise is fruit, some other species also like to eat insects and other arthropods.
The bird of paradise is medium sized. When mature, their weight ranges from 50 – 430 grams. Body length from 12 – 44cm. The tail of this bird is very long. Many times longer than the body, ranging from 60 – 110cm.
This bird breeds in pairs. When mating season comes, to attract the female’s attention, the male clears away leaves or debris to create a stage on the forest floor.
In the middle of the flat ground, it will perform by jumping from branch to branch, bending its body in many positions, spreading its colorful iridescent feathers and singing loudly. Not only does the male shake his head, stretch his neck, and hold his tail upside down, sometimes the male also opens his mouth wide in front of the female to convince his partner.
Because of its beautiful plumage and beautiful song, this bird species is at risk of population decline in the wild due to illegal hunting and trade.
